General psychiatry
Our psychiatrists assess and treat adults aged 18 years and over, working with each person and their referring practitioner to plan appropriate next steps.
People may be referred for concerns involving mood, anxiety, trauma, attention, psychosis, sleep, adjustment to illness or life events, or a combination of mental and physical-health difficulties.
An assessment considers symptoms as well as medical history, medications, relationships, work, culture, strengths and goals. Treatment recommendations are individual and may include education, psychological strategies, medication, coordination with other clinicians or further assessment.
Your initial appointment
Your psychiatrist will usually discuss:
- the reason for referral and your priorities
- current symptoms and how they affect daily life
- medical and mental-health history
- current and previous treatments
- family and social circumstances
- relevant risks, strengths and supports
- possible next steps
Some assessments require more than one appointment or additional information. A diagnosis, medication or a particular treatment outcome cannot be guaranteed.
Referrals and appointments
A valid referral is required for a new appointment and for eligible Medicare rebates. The referral should explain the reason for assessment, relevant history, current medications and any immediate clinical concerns.
All appointments are offered in person, and telehealth services are not currently available.
